Shannon Wojewoda

Bass

Musician, singer-songwriter, and educator Shannon Wojewoda is frequently the only woman in the bass section of the many professional symphony orchestras, chamber groups and touring acts with which she performs. She has appeared with ensembles including New Music Concerts, Soundstreams, the Toronto Concert Orchestra, Hamilton and Niagara Symphonies; artists such as Sarah Brightman, Evanescence, 2Cellos and Il Divo; and worked on recordings with Buffy Ste-Marie, and Amelia Curran, among others. Under her stage name Paisley Jura, she toured Canada as the bass-playing lead of her all-male band, released three albums (one of which was nominated for a Juno), and explored multidisciplinary presentations with her Secret Rooms concert series. Currently the Double Bass Visiting Artist at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, an alumnus of the University of Western Ontario and the National Youth Orchestra, and former General Manager of the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory, she is mother to three awesome boys. During the pandemic, Shannon created a daily vaccine clinic concert series in one of the hardest hit areas of Toronto, bringing live music to stressed frontline workers and renewing artists’ much needed connection with live audiences.
